Karen Pope
Support CoordinatorKaren brings a wealth of experience and a passionate, can-do attitude to her role as a Support Coordinator. With a background in photography and hospitality, Karen was first introduced to supporting children with complex medical care needs in 2003 while working at Ronald McDonald House, Brisbane, where she spent 7 years. She returned to Perth in 2010 to continue her work supporting children and young people, joining Lady Lawley Cottage in Cottesloe, a respite and community access facility for children up to 18 years of age, where she worked for another 7 years.
Over the years, Karen has worked with SIL providers and community access providers, taking on roles as a team leader and mentoring support workers. She also facilitated school holiday camps and holds a Diploma of Community Services Coordination, a Diploma of Business, and a qualification in Frontline Communications. Karen is passionate about helping people of all ages and diagnoses have a voice and live the life they want. She has a strong understanding of complex family dynamics and cultural and religious requirements.
Fun Facts:
- As her cat Cleo won’t let her have a dog, Karen gets her puppy fix by visiting clients with dogs—don’t worry about them jumping or licking!
- Karen has travelled all around Australia, driving herself and living out of her car. While it’s hard to pick a favourite, the Kimberley’s stand out.
- Overseas, Karen has trekked in the Himalayas and stayed in the Kubuqi Desert in Inner Mongolia.
